When it is safe to look

Never look at the partially eclipsed Sun without certified solar-viewing filters — eclipse glasses that meet the ISO 12312-2 standard, or a safe solar telescope/camera filter. Ordinary sunglasses are not safe. Looking through binoculars, a telescope or a camera without a proper solar filter can cause permanent eye injury in an instant.

Only during totality — and only if you are inside the path of totality — is it safe to look with the naked eye, from C2 until C3. The moment the Sun's bright edge returns at C3, put protection back on.
