What to study

The FAA says many of the A&P test questions are based on its Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbooks. [FAA mechanic FAQ] The General handbook is free from the FAA. What the written test covers is set by the FAA’s Airman Certification Standards, and our study guide lists all 12 General subjects and every knowledge element in them. [14 CFR §65.75(a)]

For plain-language explanations, one question at a time, see A&P General questions, answered. For more practice, the A&P General Test Prep page has thirty other questions. Neither repeats the questions above.

The FAA’s own FAQ points to practice exams on PSI’s website, where the FAA says you register for and schedule the test. [FAA mechanic FAQ]
