How to take the AFOQT
You start with a recruiter or a test control officer, not with a booking site. Pearson VUE says anyone who wants to sit for the AFOQT “must first reach out directly to a recruiter or test control officer at their base education center.” [Pearson VUE AFOQT page]
The steps
- Contact a recruiter or test control officer. They check your background for eligibility. Pearson VUE says that once you are verified, you can “work out a date for the exam” with them. [Pearson VUE AFOQT page]
- Get a voucher code. Pearson VUE’s notice reads: “A voucher is required to schedule the AFOQT. To obtain a voucher code, please contact your recruiter or test control officer.” [Pearson VUE AFOQT page]
- Schedule through Pearson VUE. The page offers a way to create an account, log in, find a test center, and find a test center on a military base. [Pearson VUE AFOQT page]
- Bring matching ID. Pearson VUE says the first and last name (and suffix, if any) on your ID “MUST match your name in the testing system.” [Pearson VUE AFOQT page]
Who takes it
The AFOQT is used to select applicants for officer commissioning programs such as Officer Training School (OTS) and Air Force ROTC (AFROTC), and for specific training programs such as pilot and navigator training. [Pearson VUE AFOQT page]
Cost
Pearson VUE says “The test is free of charge.” [Pearson VUE AFOQT page]
How many times you can take it
Pearson VUE says the number of tests offered is “limited two (three times with an approved waiver).” [Pearson VUE AFOQT page] We could not find a current Air Force or Pearson VUE page that states how long you must wait between attempts, so we do not state one. Ask your recruiter or test control officer.
What we cannot tell you here
Age, citizenship and education rules for OTS, AFROTC or a flying job are set by those programs, not by the AFOQT, and we did not check them against an Air Force page, so they are not listed. The Air Force’s pamphlet tells examinees to “discuss them with your test examiner, recruiter, or detachment personnel” for questions about the test. [Air Force AFOQT pamphlet]
When you are ready to practice, start with the free practice test.
