No tube cutter is available and a length of hard tubing must be cut. What does the handbook direct?
Answer
Use a fine-tooth hacksaw, preferably one having 32 teeth per inch
If a tube cutter is not available, or if tubing of hard material is to be cut, the handbook directs the use of a fine-tooth hacksaw, preferably one having 32 teeth per inch. Using a saw also decreases the amount of work-hardening at the cut, and the end is afterward filed square and smooth and deburred inside and out.

Not the answer
- Heat the tube and pull it apart at the heated section
- Use a bench grinder with a cutoff wheel
- Use a cold chisel and a hammer, then dress the end with a file
