How long does an FAA mechanic certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings remain effective?
Answer
It has no expiration date and remains effective until surrendered, suspended, or revoked
Under 14 CFR 65.15 a certificate issued under Part 65 is effective until surrendered, suspended, or revoked; it does not lapse on a schedule. The mechanic must still satisfy the 65.83 recency requirement to EXERCISE the privileges, but that is separate from the certificate's duration. March 31 of odd years is the Inspection Authorization expiration (65.92), and a mechanic certificate is not tied to a medical certificate.
