Adjusting Practices
Which kind of adjuster works on behalf of the INSURED rather than the insurer?
Answer
A public adjuster
Conn. Insurance Dept. Glossary: a 'PUBLIC ADJUSTER' is one who 'practices, as a business, the adjusting of loss or damage by fire, or other hazard, under any policies, on behalf of the insured'. A 'CLAIMS ADJUSTOR' generally may be 'an agent, company adjustor, independent adjustor, adjustment bureau, or public adjustor', and an 'ADJUSTER' is 'A person who investigates and settles losses for an insurance carrier.'
